I was a Girl Scout for all of one year.

But what an impressionable year that was. The Girl Scout qualities of “leadership, strong values, social conscience, and conviction about my own potential and self-worth” that were instilled in me have served me well my entire life. And, I truly believe, they have contributed to my success today.

But the other valuable trait that I obtained from that impressionable year (and my husband and daughters will appreciate this) is to always be prepared for whatever unforeseen circumstance might come my way. I always have a Plan B!

To give you an example, my automobile console (as well as my handbag), are likened to a mobile Walmart. Currently one or the other contain everything from a first aid kit, extra toothbrushes & dental floss, extra contact lens cases, a miniature sewing kit, Tide pen and Shout wipes, sanitary items, hand sanitizer, lint remover, breath mints, hairbrush, and eyeglass wipes. My locked glove compartment contains all of my necessary documents including a detailed printout of information I need to collect should a fender-bender occur. I keep an emergency kit in the trunk of my car with booster cables, emergency road flares, flashlight, blanket, road map, umbrella, etc.

While my family finds this to be an amusing quality, I find it empowering! And perhaps that sense of empowerment is what attracted me to this empowering educational resource for women!

I want to take this opportunity to salute the committed adult volunteers in Girl Scouting for helping “girls” like me “build the courage, confidence, and character, to make the world a better place.”

A world of “thanks” to all of you!

Blessings,

Ingrid
