Everybody always wants to look their best in order to feel their best. But time has a way of concealing the beauty we feel inside. One of the major changes that occurs to the face over time is a descent of the eyebrows and forehead.

A heartfelt “thank you” is extended to all of the Nurses in Camden County during their special week of recognition.

The half-gram bottle of bath salts promises an "invigorating" and "energizing" experience but to local and federal authorities, it's another dangerous product misused as “fake cocaine” that's sending youth to emergency rooms and mental hospitals in Florida and across the country.
A second opinion can be very helpful in deciding among various treatment options.

Most Americans likely can describe warning signs and health risks associated with breast cancer and heart disease, but relatively few people are aware of another potentially fatal disease that disproportionately strikes young women. The disease is lupus.
The world’s first “test tube baby” is now 31 years old.  Four million babies have been born world-wide through the medical miracle of In Vitro Fertilization, also known by its initials IVF.

Typically, the articles appearing in this section of both the Burlington County Woman and Camden County Woman publications focus on some aspect of hospice care such as the management of end-of-life issues, grief and loss, caregiver concerns, etc.  However, this article is different.  This one is personal.

Introducing: ELASTIderm® Eye Treatment...at last, a new skin care product that works to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes.

People, who do not like something about their face, whether it’s sagging skin, hallow circles, droopy brows, smile lines or sagging jowls are not always willing to undergo surgery.
Tubal ligation is the most commonly used method of contraception for women over age 30. It is also known as “permanent sterilization.” In women the procedure is called tubal ligation and in men it is called vasectomy. These procedures are known in lay terms as “tying your tubes.” Couples choose to undergo one of these procedures when they no longer desire fertility, yet want to avoid the need for contraception methods which must be used continuously or at least vigilantly. In women the procedure involves obstructing the mid-portion of the fallopian tube, which is the duct through which the egg must travel to reach the uterus.
People who care for others or work in the “helping professions” usually have an abundance of caring concern for those they serve. Boundaries may often be hard to set when responding to the needs of others.  The love and caring that make care-givers so special can also serve as a major source of stress in their own lives.

The American Dietetic Association supports a report issued by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) calling for new dietary intake levels for calcium and vitamin D to maintain health and avoid risks associated with excess consumption. The new Dietary Reference Intake values are based on evidence supporting the roles of these nutrients in bone health but not in other health conditions.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common neurological disorder diagnosed in young adults. Most individuals who develop MS are diagnosed between the ages of 15 and 50, and on average, women are three times more likely than men to develop this disease. MS is not contagious and usually does not shorten life expectancy. Although the disease may not be cured or prevented, treatments are available to reduce severity and delay progression of certain types of MS.
Patients are seeking a longer lasting product that fills in lines, such as the lines around the mouth, as part of their overall anti-aging skin care regimen. Dermal fillers such as Juvèderm™ injectable gel are designed to reduce the appearance of facial folds by using hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally hydrating substance, to restore the skin’s volume and smooth out the wrinkles and folds on your face. A long lasting, reversible filler such as Juvèderm™ can provide a natural look which can be modified or adjusted according to each individual’s face over time. New clinical studies have shown that the effects of this product may last up to one year with a single treatment.

“I thought that cervical cancer was something out of the past. Why are we seeing so many cases of precancer and cancer of the cervix today?” Many women ask these and other questions about cervical cancer each day. During my Princeton varsity field hockey days, I had a doctor tell me to stop playing because of back and leg pain. I couldn’t accept that advice. Instead, I found a specialist who would help me with treatments and training aids that would let me keep playing a sport I loved. And the experience motivated me to study sports medicine with an emphasis on exploring the differences between men and women athletes.

Many of us may have found ourselves offering thanks at Thanksgiving, a festival of foods, only to be followed by the season of eating and then the resolution “hopes” to begin anew.   “LETTING GO” of the unwanted weight or “LIGHTENING UP” on the daily medications* should become our priority if our health is of any importance in 2011.

It’s been called “The Long Goodbye”.  Alzheimer’s disease…it’s a thief that robs you of your memories, robs you of your dignity, and robs your family of its emotional and financial stability.
The latest rage among many high school and college students is causing some serious concerns. An alcoholic energy drink called Four Loko is so potent some states want it banned. Four Loko is considered an “alco-pop”, an alcoholic beverage made with fruit juices and other flavorings which tend to conceal the alcohol content of the drink behind a sweet, fruity flavor. The colors, the flavors, the website, and the language used to market this product clearly targets teens, i.e. underage drinkers.
Rarely, if ever, in the course of an individual’s serious illness and treatment is there one, single, readily-apparent moment when the focus of care clearly shifts away from being curative and becomes palliative or, hospice care. Just as treating the disease is a process, so is preparing ourselves for end of life when cure is no longer possible.
