Rain harvesting has become popular in the Southwest and is now available in this area. People who are familiar with a “green state of mind” may already be familiar with the term Rain Harvesting. Others may ask, “What exactly IS rain harvesting?

The basics are simple – rain water is collected from the rain gutters on your property to provide your lawn sprinkler system! The water is filtered and collected into an above ground or underground tank. When it’s time for the irrigation system to run, the pump engages and puts water into your sprinkler line. If the amount of water in the tank drops below a specified line the pump shuts down and the valve shuts off opening another valve allowing municipal water or well water to finish irrigating the property.

There are different approaches to irrigating properties. You may only want to irrigate your planting beds with drip irrigation. If your property is not too large the rain harvesting system can be adapted to your entire property.
