Norma Hunter has been a United States Coast Guard Auxiliarist for more than 30 years. As an Auxiliarist, Norma is one of thousands of civilian, non-military, volunteer men and women who are dedicated to assisting the U.S. Coast Guard in nearly all phases of recreational boating safety and other interesting missions.

Through the years, Norma has devoted countless hours as a trained instructor, teaching boating safety, navigation, and other nautical skill courses to recreational boaters. She is also a trained Auxiliary Vessel Examiner who conducts free Vessel Safety Checks for owners of recreational boats to ensure that each boater has the required state and federal safety equipment on board and that it is in working order.

The Auxiliary is organized into local groups called Flotillas, which are then organized into Divisions. Norma is the Division as well as the Flotilla Staff Officer for Vessel Examinations.  Her flotilla meets every month in Haddon Heights.  Norma has also served as a Flotilla Commander. She recently earned her wings as a Coast Guard Auxiliary Air Crew, having completed the Auxiliary Aviation Spatial Disorientation Training in Pensacola last year in the simulator used for Navy pilots.

Norma, a lifelong resident of Burlington County, grew up around boats. Her father always had one boat or another, and he purchased a series of boats for Norma and her brother. She grew up learning about the Auxiliary from her father who was a member of her flotilla for many years and was also activein the Public Education Program assisting in the instruction of courses on the principles of piloting, sailing, seamanship, boating safety and regulations pertaining to the operation of small boats.

Norma and her husband are boating enthusiasts and have two boats of their own.
