Seven Things to Make Your Spring Sensational!

A bright color splash – Use vibrant tones of orange, green and blue for pillows on the sofa, place a throw over a wood rocker and create a floral arrangement to wake up the foyer!

Metal — It’s the hottest new accessory. Try an intricately designed metal grid on a long hallway wall; mixed candle sticks clustered on the coffee table; or maybe bronze accent tiles on the kitchen backsplash. Larger grills can be used as headboards. Metal accents have moved from Southwestern or Rustic décor to being a key item in all design projects.

Bold prints Spring 2009 is all about big and bold patterns. Floral patterns, geometrics and wide stripes are among the new fabric collections for spring 2009.

Visit a salvage center - The use of re-claimed wood, stone and brick can offer an interesting twist to vintage décor. Architects and designers have been tapping into these resources for years but recently there has been growing interest with homeowners in search of unique or authentic pieces. Deco light fixtures, doors, railing parts, leaded glass and mantels are among the most requested items in the salvage yards.

Chirp with the birds - Yes, birds are this spring’s pop-pick for nature-inspired room design. All types of birds and in all colors. They will be on lamp shades, fabric, bedding and art work!

“Green” wallpaper – Today everyone knows “green” is much more than just a color. Our concerns for the environment have become important to the home décor market as well. Many wallpaper manufacturers are featuring eco-friendly wallpaper/fabric collections. Products created with natural items: leaves, grasses, glass and cork. The textures are indescribably beautiful!

Bamboo - As a flooring choice! It’s naturally a warm tone and can be stained if desired. Durability is a definite with bamboo. It is stain and moisture resistant, and it is harder than most standard hardwood floors and usually will cost less per foot.
