Outstanding Woman – Laurelle A. Cummings


Laurelle A. Cummings of Waterford Township has centered her interests on government, health services, advancing women’s issues and supporting volunteerism in Camden County.  Her 32 year career in health and related fields includes Goodwill Industries of Southern NJ, the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society and the Volunteer Center of Camden County. She currently holds the position of Volunteer Services Coordinator and Legislative Advocate for Lighthouse Hospice, Inc. in Cherry Hill, NJ.

Laurelle’s governmental career began in 1989 when she was elected to serve on council in her community.  She became Mayor of Waterford Township in 1994 and 1998.  In 1998 she was elected as a Camden County Freeholder and spent six years supporting county residents in the areas of Public Works, Parks and Recreation and the Department of Health and Human Services.

Laurelle  currently volunteers with many community organizations and serves as Chair of the Camden County Volunteer Center Advisory Board, Chair of the Waterford Township Economic Development Committee, President of the Camden County Chapter of the Federation of Democratic Women and  is a member of the Camden County Commission for Women,  Mainstage Center for the Arts, Waterford Township Civic and Events Association, HOPE – Helping Other People Evolve and  SCUCS – Senior Citizens United Community Services.

Laurelle and her husband Frank have eight children, 26 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
